Publix Warns of STEC in Ground Beef

Publix has warned consumers of possible danger from consuming ground beef contaminated with E.coli O26. The CDC has identified 18 cases attributed to the outbreak. The supermarket chain noted that the implicated product was processed from late June to late July.

It is significant that the source of the producer is unknown suggesting the need for more precise traceback. Episodes such as this will create greater reliance on blockchain, which should indicate  sources including packing plants both in the U.S. and from imported material.

In the present case, eight separate products are involved, including ground chuck, ground burgers and flavored meatballs.
