Plants in Brazil Approved for Export to Mexico


The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply for the Government of Brazil has announced that an additional 26 plants have been authorized to export chicken to Mexico, bringing the total to 46 licensed facilities.

Between January and October, the value of exports of poultry to Mexico from Brazil under a duty-free TRQ totaled $138 million. The value of U.S. exports over the period January through September 2018 attained $387 million. For the nine-month period, 473,605 metric tons of U.S. chicken products were exported to Mexico with a unit price of $817 per metric ton.

According to USDA FAS GAIN Report #MX8035 dated July 27th, in 2019, Mexico will produce 3.6 million metric tons of chicken and will import 840,000 metric tons, up from 830,000 metric tons in 2018. For 2018, the U.S. held 86 percent of the import market into Mexico.
