JBS Agrees to Settlement


According to an Associated Press report on November 15th, JBS Beef, a subsidiary of JBS SA of Brazil will pay $4 million in back wages and other compensation as part of a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Labor. 


It is alleged that the company discriminated against applicants based on national origin and gender, for positions at the Hyrum, UT. and Cactus, TX. plants.


In terms of the consent agreement the Company will compensate 12,625 members of the class and will hire 1,664 from the applicant pool. The Company has revised conditions of employment and has appointed a professional consultant to oversee hiring and documentation.
